Summer Orientation 2019
New Student Orientation is not only for students. We strongly encourage parents and families to attend orientation at Western Michigan University with your student. We offer a separate Family Orientation programming track for us to share valuable resources to assist with your student’s transition into and throughout their time at WMU.
Registration and costs
There is no separate registration process for parents and families. If you would like to attend, have your student indicate your name in the parent and family section as he or she registers. Your student’s orientation fee—which is billed directly to their account with fall tuition—covers all programming expenses and meals for up to two family members.
Accommodations and meals
Your student will stay with us on campus in the Valley 2 residence halls. There are many hotels nearby to accommodate our parents and families. Many will offer a discount with the MyWMU concierge card. We offer a variety of pastries and coffee for your morning and a hot buffet lunch for your afternoon. For dinner, we encourage families to explore the many options that Kalamazoo offers.
Office of Family Engagement
Parents and families are encouraged to begin making connections now by visiting the Family Engagement website. You can sign up for the WMU Family Connection for helpful e-communications and order your MyWMU concierge card for hotel, restaurant and retailer discounts.
Many participants attending the Parent and Family Orientation have requested that we post some of our presentation slides for later referral. We know we provide a lot of information, and it is hard to digest in one setting. Listed below are some of the key presentations.
