Building bridges to the CPA profession

Dr. Brittani Shantel Jackson, assistant professor of accountancy, was named a 2025 Women to Watch – Emerging Leader by the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants. NABA at WMU was also selected for MICPA's Future of Accounting award, recognizing the chapter's impact on expanding opportunities for Black and diverse students and strengthening the pipeline for future CPAs. As faculty advisor, Jackson creates pathways to the profession through professional development, scholarships, mentoring and conferences, eliminating financial barriers and building belonging for students.

Nerves of steel prevail as sales students win big at Steel City Sales Challenge

WMU Haworth sales and business marketing students were victorious at the Steel City Sales Challenge hosted by Duquesne University in late October. Senior Drew Gassman placed first in the elevator pitch competition, claiming a $1,500 prize, and senior Josh Major placed second in the role-play competition, earning a $2,500 prize. Coached by faculty specialist Mary Nielsen, WMU students posted top finishes in both competition categories, with five additional students named finalists. The virtual competition was sponsored by Ally Financial and saw over a dozen universities competing in the annual event.
