Lieutenant Colonel Caitlin M. Hinterman received her commission in the United States Army Reserve on 07 August 2004 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, MI. Commissioned as a Transportation Officer, she attended Transportation Officer Basic Course (TOBC) at Fort Eustis, VA.

Her civilian education includes a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Community Recreation and Leisure Administration and a Masters of Business Administration from Trident University in Strategic Leadership. Her military awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal with bronze star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M device, Overseas Service Ribbon, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and Parachute Rigger Badge.
