Overview
The Master of Arts in Counselor Education with a Clinical Mental Health Counseling concentration at Western Michigan University prepares you to support others while advancing your own professional goals. Designed for individuals committed to ethical practice, self-reflection, and meaningful service, the program integrates theory, research, and hands-on clinical training. You will develop the skills needed to work effectively with diverse populations while emphasizing cultural responsiveness, advocacy, and evidence-based counseling approaches.
Upon completion of the program, you will have fulfilled the academic requirements to apply for the Limited License Professional Counselor (LLPC) in Michigan. Graduates must submit an application for licensure and complete additional requirements, including a criminal background check. The LLPC credential allows graduates to begin practicing under supervision in a variety of mental health, community, and clinical settings, providing a strong foundation for long-term professional growth.
