- Kalamazoo Community Foundation Emergency Scholarship
- Open to Kalamazoo County residents.

- Applications will be accepted from January 1, 2026 to March 15 2026.
- JOY Literacy Foundation will award scholarships to literacy teachers-in-training who are at least juniors. Applications should be submitted during the spring semester to be considered for the following academic year.
- The scholarship is exclusively for qualified tuition.

- Up to $250 from CEHD towards travel for presentation at conferences or exhibitions, this includes posters. Proof that the paper, project, or posted was selected by conference is required.
- Funds will only be awarded after seeking department, Graduate College, and WMU funding sources. Proof that these sources have been exhausted is required.
- Funds are awarded one time for one trip and applied for prior to trip.
- Once a student has received confirmation of the award via email, the student will receive "scholarship" posted to their account for the award. Financial Aid processes will be upheld. This may impact Financial Aid packages. (Funds will be posted to accounts and expenses will be paid first before the refund is processed).

- The Allegan County Community Foundation offers a variety of scholarships to support Allegan County students—whether you’re a high school senior, current college student, or non-traditional learner. With opportunities based on academic merit, financial need, field of study, and community involvement, these scholarships help make education more accessible. Applications open each December with a due date of March 10th, and renewable recipients must submit updated information annually by July 1. - For those submitting their first application to the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan’s scholarship program, the process begins with a quick account registration to be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on February 12, so that you may start an application.

To be eligible, the student must:
- Complete the annual MI Future Educator Fellowship application by June 15, 2026.
- File a current-year Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Be a high school graduate.
- Be admitted into an eligible Educator Preparation Program (EPP) approved by Michigan’s State Board of Education.
- Be working on their initial teacher certification.
- Be enrolled in enough coursework to be considered enrolled full-time during the academic year, or its equivalency for individuals enrolled in an alternative certification program.
- Have reached Junior grade level according to the institution’s definition.
- Have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0.
- Be a Michigan resident since July 1 of the previous calendar year.
- If you are a dependent student, the contributor(s) on your FAFSA must also be a Michigan resident.
- This will be confirmed based on your FAFSA.
- Complete a Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement, which requires that the recipient teach in Michigan in a public school or qualifying public preschool program for a specific number of years, depending on the number of years the recipient has received the MI Future Educator Fellowship. This will be issued to applicants when the institution confirms eligibility.
- The Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement must be e-signed no later than July 15, 2026.

- Be admitted in an eligible Educator Preparation Program (EPP) approved by Michigan's State Board of Education.
- Be working towards teacher certification.
- Be participating full-time in a required student teaching experience by meeting both of the following parameters:

- Applicants must be participating full-time in a required student teaching experience by meeting one of the following parameters:
- Full-time enrollment in required student teaching coursework OR
- 300 or more student contact hours while student teaching.

- Not be employed by the district as a "Teacher of Record".
- “Teacher of Record” is defined in the 2024-25 MDE Pupil Accounting Manual as one who is responsible for providing instruction, determining instructional methods for each pupil, diagnosing learning needs, assessing pupil learning, prescribing intervention strategies, and modifying lessons, reporting outcomes, and evaluating the effects of instruction and support strategies.
- Must be in a required student teaching semester that is necessary to complete their Educator Preparation Program.
- Students are limited to a maximum of two MI Future Educator Stipends in their lifetime.

Frequently asked questions
Yes! The CEHD offers scholarships for international students.
To be considered for financially need-based CEHD scholarships, international students should complete the specific financial status section in the CEHD scholarship application. This information is essential for eligibility.
International students are also encouraged to connect with WMU's International Student and Scholarship Services regarding other campus-wide scholarship opportunities.
Final scholarship decisions are made during the months of March-August. If selected for a CEHD scholarship, recipients will be notified via email from the Scholarship Universe system.
Those not selected will receive an email from the CEHD informing them of this decision between the months of July and August.

Requirements can vary depending on the scholarship. Eligibility often includes academic performance, financial need, specific majors, community service, or other achievements. Reviewing each scholarship’s specific criteria is essential to know if you qualify.
While many of our scholarships primarily cover tuition, we also offer several funds that extend to other educational expenses, including textbooks, room and board, and additional needs.
CEHD Scholarship awards are disbursed to your WMU student account 10 days prior to the beginning of a semester.
Yes! CEHD offers study abroad scholarships!
These scholarships are available through the CEHD General Scholarship application, which opens annually from December 1 to February 15. Please note applications for study abroad scholarships are only accepted during this time; CEHD does not offer an application outside of this cycle. Be sure to submit your application within the designated window to be considered!
