Fast-track your professional growth
Career success in engineering, engineering technology, and computing sciences requires expertise beyond technical competencies. Skills like managing conflict, leading an organization, working effectively in teams, and effectively interviewing for jobs can accelerate your transition into your chosen field.
The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Career Accelerator Program (CAP) provides you an opportunity to expand your toolkit of professional skills while focusing on an area of co-curricular activities that resonates with your personal and professional goals. Regular discussions with program staff will help you make intentional choices regarding your professional growth to maximize the impact of your WMU experience and beyond.
Multiple tracks
Multiple tracks are available within the Career Accelerator Program. Tracks within the program are intended to be completed over the course of approximately two years. Common among all tracks is a requirement for an annual resume review and participation in a job fair or equivalent experience. Beyond these requirements, each track has unique features designed to focus a student’s co-curricular efforts in a specific area of interest. Currently planned tracks for 2026-2027 are:
- Industry
- Community
- Sustainability
Each track includes several semesters of regular participation in seminars, workshops and experiential learning followed by a substantial culminating experience. Most culminating experiences will be at approximately a semester in length, but shorter options may be available in some tracks. At the conclusion of the culminating experience, students who seek additional recognition for their achievement will be able to receive recognition on their diploma through the WMU Signature Program after completing an in-depth reflection on their personal/professional growth.
