ALS Caregiver Lab - Safety & Mobility, Communication & Swallowing Tips

Posted by Joel Krauss for College of Health and Human Services

This interactive Caregiver Lab will focus on conserving and preserving speech and voice with ALS, what to do as one’s speech and voice change, safety tips for swallowing, diet modifications, and eating for pleasure.

The ALS Caregiver Labs are workshops created for caregivers of people living with ALS. The program is designed to provide hands-on learning, education, and training for caregivers focusing on durable medical equipment, communication & speech, respiratory equipment, dietary & nutrition needs, and other areas. We have collaborated with various universities throughout Michigan and their faculty and students within the dietician, speech, OT and PT, and respiratory programs to help provide hands-on learning opportunities for our ALS caregivers.
