CAC 2025 Conference Committee

Jon Davis

Jon Davis is a Professor of Mathematics Education at Western Michigan University. He teaches mathematics courses to undergraduate students enrolled in various majors. He also teaches mathematics education courses to primary education preservice teachers, secondary education preservice teachers, and graduate students. His research focuses on textual analyses of curriculum resources, preservice teachers’ learning from curriculum resources, and how practicing teachers interact with curriculum resources. He also conducts research involving preservice teachers’ lesson design with dynamic, interconnected representations and how undergraduate students use mathematical action technology interactives to deepen their understanding of foundational mathematical ideas. He currently serves as a co-chair of the CAC 2025.

Mariana Levin

Mariana Levin is an Associate Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Mathematics Education at Western Michigan University. Currently, she serves as a co-chair of the CAC 2025. Her research focuses on understanding the role of knowledge and epistemic affect in moment-by-moment processes of reasoning and sense-making. Her edited volume “Knowledge and Interaction: A Synthetic Agenda for the Learning Sciences” (with A.A. diSessa and N.J.S. Brown) explores this line of work, connecting insights from diverse research traditions on learning processes as they unfold in real-time in real-world contexts. Her current work explores the development of mathematical agency and autonomy in undergraduate students’ experiences in proof-intensive mathematics courses.

Nesrin Cengiz-Philips

Nesrin Cengiz-Phillips is an Associate Professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Her research focuses on fostering inclusive learning environments where diverse perspectives are valued, and students are actively engaged in meaningful mathematical tasks. She collaborates with her colleagues, using their own classes as sites for research to improve teacher education. Currently, she serves as the chair of the Nominations and Elections Committee for MI-AMTE.

Matt Wyneken

Matt Wyneken is associate professor emeritus at UM-Flint, currently serving as secretary and sponsorship coordinator for MI-AMTE.  He is a past president of MI-AMTE, and a past chair of the Michigan Section of the Mathematical Association of America.

Nitchada Kamlue

Nitchada Kamlue is a MI-AMTE Graduate Student Representative. She is currently a mathematics education Ph.D. candidate and working as a teaching assistant at Western Michigan University. Her research interests are cultural aspects of professional development and investigating productive struggle.
