GRADUATE STUDENT NEWS

  • Rahel Kessete Afewerky, Ph.D. student, received the WMU-AAUP's A. Robert Kleiner Memorial Scholarship.
  • Manuel Soque, Ph.D. candidate, received the 2022 All University Graduate Teaching Effectiveness Award.
  • Amauri Pineda, Ph.D. candidate, won first place at the WMU Graduate College's Research Presentations event.
  • Manuel Soque, Ph.D. candidate, received the WMU Graduate College's Gwen Frostic Dissertation Fellowship.
  • Abi Chamlagai, Ph.D. candidate, received the WMU Graduate College's Patricia L. Thompson Dissertation Award.
  • Amauri Pineda and Manuel Soque, Ph.D. candidates, received the WMU Graduate College’s Dissertation Completion Fellowship Award beginning the fall 2020 semester. 
  • Naomi Bick, Ph.D. candidate, is a recipient of a College of Arts and Sciences Climate Change Research Graduate Scholarship.  Bick will be using the funds to begin working on her dissertation.
  • Brittany Brake, Ph.D. candidate, received the WMU Graduate College’s Dissertation Completion Fellowship Award and the 2019 All-University Graduate

     Teaching Effectiveness Award.  Brake is currently researching and writing her dissertation.

  • Manuel Soque, Ph.D. candidate, is currently researching for his dissertation in his home country of Angola, Africa.  Soque has been awarded a scholarship to help him in his endeavors.
  • Rei Gordon, M.A., is one of the recipients of the Graduate Teaching Award at the master’s level.  After successfully defending her master’s thesis this past summer, Gordon has decided to continue with her graduate studies and earn a Ph.D. in political science.
     
  • Adam Bennett, Ph.D. student, received the WMU Graduate Student Association's Make a Difference Award for Social Justice and Advocacy this past spring.

  • Accelerated Master of Arts in Political Science: allows undergraduate political science majors at WMU to begin to accumulate credits toward the completion of a master's degree while completing their bachelor's degree
  • Kalamazoo College 4+1: Kcollege students may be able to transfer undergraduate credits toward a WMU master's degree in political science 
  • Albion College 4+1: Albion students may be able to transfer undergraduate credits toward a WMU master's degree in political science 
  • Aquinas College 4+1: Aquinas students may be able to transfer undergraduate credits toward a WMU master's degree in political science
  • Dual degree MA program with the Graduate Institute of International Politics at National Chung Hsing University in Taiwan
