The Kourdie-Elshafei Scholarship

This scholarship has been established by Touline (LuLu) Kourdie Elshafei, a 2014 graduate of WMU's Political Science Department. A recipient of departmental scholarships while she was a student, LuLu is paying it forward by creating opportunities for current students. The spirit of this award is to support undergraduate students in the Department of Political Science who are working toward WMU graduation. The award is made on the basis of the student’s academic scholarship and demonstrated financial need.
One scholarship valued at $2500 will be awarded for Fall.
To be eligible for this award from the Department of Political Science, at time of applications, a student:
  1. Must hold a 3.15 GPA or greater.
  2. Must demonstrate financial need.
  3. Must have junior or senior level status and be enrolled in the Fall semester.
Preference shall be given to students who are the first in their family to attend college, students who have overcome significant socio‐economic hardships, and students who graduated from identified urban high schools.
Note that the receipt of other awards, scholarships, or honors will not make any student ineligible to apply for or receive the Kourdie-Elshafei Scholarship.

Your application form, essay and names of references are due in the political science department office, 3308 Friedmann Hall, by March 1. Announcement of the award will be made at the end of March. The award will be presented at the Political Science Honors Luncheon in early April.
