Mock Trial Results
The Mock Trial team in the Department of Political Science at Western Michigan University competed for the first time in 2000-01. Since then, the team has won such accolades as Best New Team, the Spirit of American Mock Trial Association award and a number of individual outstanding witness and attorney awards.
2011-12
Chris Nickel won Regional Outstanding Attorney and Regional Outstanding Witness.
2010-11
Chris Little won Regional Outstanding Attorney and WMU won the Regional Spirit of AMTA award.
2009-10
Western placed fifth at Case Western with a record of 5-3. Through the course of the season, Chris Little received an award for best attorney and Justin Pace received an award for best witness. Jackie Olds received an honorable mention for best attorney and Jeffrey Spangler received an honorable mention for best witness. In addition, the team received Spirit of AMTA honorable mention.
2008-09
While finishing 3-5 at the Joliet Regional, WMU lost three ballots by a combined six points, while the other two ballots were lost 8-0 to eventual national finalist University of Michigan. WMU was likely six points from another trip to nationals.
2007-08
The team made fourth place at the Joliet Regional finishing with a 5-2-1 record. This finish secured the team a bid to the national tournament in Waukegan, Ill.
2006-07
The team placed third at the Ohio Northern Invitational and received honorable mention at the Notre Dame Regional. Reema Nandy won an outstanding witness award and Richard Salchow won an outstanding attorney award.
2005-06
Western finished seventh place at the Notre Dame Regional and advanced to the National Tournament in St. Paul, Ill.
2003-04
The team placed fifth at the national tournament at Eastern Kentucky University.
2002-03
Western placed ninth at nationals.
2001-02
WMU placed second at Notre Dame regional. Kevin Wordelman received an outstanding attorney award and Andrea Smalley received an outstanding witness award.
2000-01
The team won the Spirit of AMTA award at the Toledo regional competition as well as the Best New School award. Sam Finkelstein won an outstanding attorney award, Jen Alward won an outstanding attorney award and Erica Nader won an outstanding witness award.
