Student Opportunity Center
Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship, part of the Office of Research and Innovation, is home to the Student Opportunity Center. SOC gives students access to over 8,000 opportunities, across the country and right here on campus. These opportunities are related to research and creative scholarship including conferences, research opportunities, journals for publishing student work, and other funding opportunities. Students currently registered at WMU may create a free account using their student wmich.edu email.

Create an Account
Create an account and click the link at the bottom, "click here to create new." Remember, you must use your wmich.edu email address to create your account.
Select Interests
Once logged in, select interests by clicking the interest link from the menu on the left side of the screen. Toggle the button at the right to turn the interests on or off. Selecting interests will allow SOC to present relevant recommendations. Request to receive periodic email updates with new opportunities that match interests selected.
Opportunities
To search for opportunities, click the search link in the menu or type key words (subject areas, majors, locations, etc.) into the search box at the top of the home page. This enables the search screen to refine results based on opportunity type, interest area or communities using the filters along the left side of the screen.
View Detailed Opportunity
If an opportunity looks interesting, click the opportunity title. Once in the detailed view, click the title again to go to the original website for the opportunity. Clicking the arrow in front of the title will return to the previous search page.
Tag Opportunities
Mark any opportunity of interest as a “favorite” to make it easy to locate later. To mark a favorite, click the heart icon in the upper right corner in the summary view or in the bottom left corner of the detail view.
Mark an opportunity as “applied” (page icon) or “participated” (check mark icon). These tags will help keep track of opportunities of interest and help WMU know which opportunities are most relevant to WMU students.
To view all of the tagged opportunities click the appropriate link from the main menu on the left side of the screen.
