WILLIAMS THEATRE
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Based on ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’ by T.S. Eliot
You have been invited to join the Jellicle Cats at their annual Jellicle Ball!  Cats like humans are complex beings made of extroverts and introverts, rule makers and rule breakers, relaxed and highly energized, playful and serious felines.  And at the Jellicle Ball they dance to celebrate all that makes them exceptional.  But there is also a dangerous game afoot - one of them must be chosen by Old Deuteronomy to ascend to the Heavyside Layer, leave their life on this planet behind and be reborn into a new Jellicle life.

At once playful, haunting, and full of heart, CATS invites you to step into a world that feels both fantastical and deeply human, where each cat touts their talents through song and dance.

Western Michigan University’s production of CATS brings this beloved musical into the intimate Williams Theatre, placing the audience right in the heart of the Jellicle Ball.

Based on the poetry of T.S. Eliot, “Webber has smartly mined the natural music in Eliot’s jaunty rhythms and clever rhyme schemes, applying them to the specific characters of his cats, who live in the shadows but leap into life when the moon is high.” -Variety

For audiences ages 8+ - No babes in arms.
