Leadership and learning drive Kevin Dalmasi’s future in finance
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Kevin Dalmasi is an emerging leader in the field of finance. The senior finance major at Western Michigan University’s Haworth College of Business is defining his educational experience through internships and campus involvements.
From leadership roles in student organizations to internships with local companies, Dalmasi is building a foundation for a successful future.
“My journey began with my leadership role in the Financial Services Association, where the challenges I faced and the guidance I received laid the groundwork for my continued involvement,” he says.
Since then, he has served as an undergraduate research assistant at WMU Haworth, participated in the Leadership and Business Strategy practicum as a business analyst at Sleeping Giant Capital and worked as an investment analyst for the Student Managed Investment Fund. Additionally, being a Greenleaf Trust Scholar has provided Dalmasi with valuable mentorship and professional development opportunities. “These hands-on experiences have allowed me to apply classroom theories in real-world settings, making my academic learning more engaging and impactful.”
Dalmasi’s varied opportunities are giving him a head start on his personal journey.
"Beyond technical abilities, I have gained valuable public speaking experience by being invited to speak at WMU Haworth’s The 30 alumni event and serving as a panelist for Greenleaf Trust’s Wealth Development Program, where I shared insights and advice with high school students in the Greater Kalamazoo Area. Attending the Finance Leaders Conference, hosted by the Financial Management Association, further expanded my knowledge by providing valuable insights into various finance careers, market trends, professional certifications and the impact of AI in finance. These events, combined with the application of concepts from my academic career, have reinforced my ability to analyze financial markets, develop strategic solutions and communicate effectively—skills that are crucial for my long-term professional success.”,
Dalmasi was also a wealth management intern at Korhorn Financial Group. In this position, he was responsible for assisting with analyzing portfolios, assessing risk and working with high-net-worth clients to achieve their financial goals. He says, “Interning in wealth management has allowed me to develop a deep understanding of investment strategies, client relationship management and financial planning.”
With plans to graduate fall of 2025, Dalmasi hopes to be a beacon of inspiration for underrepresented students. “I want to be someone who not only represents diverse voices but also pays it forward by offering mentorship and guidance to those who may not have the same resources or opportunities,” he says. “I am committed to giving back to my community, empowering the next generation and helping others achieve their full potential.”
With that in mind, Dalmasi leaves these words of advice for his peers at WMU Haworth. “Work hard but be intentional about the necessary steps it will take to achieve your goals. Stay inquisitive and engaged within the business community and always seek opportunities to challenge yourself. Growth comes from pushing your limits and embracing challenges along the way.”
