Landon Wiedenhoeft serves up success at WMU Haworth
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Food marketing student, Landon Wiedenhoeft, has gotten a taste of leadership and collaboration at Western Michigan University. The junior from Spring Lake, Michigan, adds just the right flavor to the Haworth College of Business through his work in student organizations and professional opportunities.
Holding multiple leadership roles, Wiedenhoeft has a well-seasoned presence on campus.
“I am currently the vice president of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society, the Western Student Association (WSA) representative for the Food Marketing Association and academic chair for WMU Haworth in WSA. Through my WSA chair position, I hope to build a more welcoming environment for the students, as well as fostering open dialogue between the student body and the WMU Haworth administration.”
With his passion and dedication as a driving force, Wiedenhoeft has cultivated connections that are the perfect recipe for professional growth.
“The faculty at WMU Haworth are always willing to work with their students—both to reach goals and to be flexible when things come up. Many professors put their students first within their classes and connect with them on a personal level. There have been a number of mentors that I’ve had within the college who have truly impacted me for the better. Dr. Russell Zwanka, Dr. Bret Wagner, Dr. Brittani Jackson and Victoria Fleenor, have all been willing to give me advice on not just school, but career trajectory and life events as well.”
As Wiedenhoeft’s academic career evolves, he is sampling many of the professional opportunities available to him. “I have been to many different conferences,” he says. “Through the food marketing program, I’ve attended the National Frozen and Refrigerated Foods Convention, the National Grocers Association Executive Conference, the Food Marketing Conference, and the Private Label Manufacturers Association trade show. I have cherished every moment and conference with the food marketing program, and I am honored to have been able to represent the best of the program.”
Hungry for career development and invaluable experiences, Wiedenhoeft has big plans for the future. This summer, he is attending the Business and Culture in Thailand study abroad trip, where he will focus on sustainability projects while being immersed in Thai culture. After his trip. Wiedenhoeft will head to North Dakota to work as a sales intern at PepsiCo for the remainder of the summer, adding depth to his college experience.
