Richerd Winton

Gifted Grantmaker

Grants Management Associate, The Kresge Foundation

Investing in causes that improve opportunities across America sounds like a big responsibility, and that is exactly what Richerd Winton gets to do every day as a grants management associate at The Kresge Foundation, a private foundation that specializes in grantmaking and social investing in arts and culture, education, the environment and other avenues of community development.

Winton has put his degree in management to use in various grantmaking roles throughout his career. He previously held the same title at the William Davidson Foundation for over four years, where he co-managed portfolios of up to $60 million. Prior to that, Winton was the program assistant for Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Businesses program at Wayne State University when the site was ranked in first place among 17 other sites in the same program.

Winton is heavily tied to the southeast Michigan region for his humanitarian efforts outside of work, too. He regularly lends his time to Gleaners Community Food Bank, Heritage Works, and mentors high school students in Detroit. This year he is co-chairing the PEAK Grantmaking Annual Conference.

Funniest Work Experience: “Accidentally joining Martha Stewart’s entourage during a small business conference in Detroit hosted by Jack Ma and The Goldman Sachs Foundation.”
