Overview
Western Michigan University’s Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology offers a comprehensive, practice-focused education for students preparing to work in diverse mental health settings. Beyond required departmental core coursework, the program emphasizes psychopathology, psychological assessment, counseling and psychotherapy theories, applied clinical practice, and supervised practicum experiences. Students develop strong clinical skills grounded in ethical practice, cultural responsiveness, and evidence-based approaches.
Designed for individuals seeking limited licensure as a psychologist in the State of Michigan, the program prepares graduates to provide assessment and therapeutic services across community agencies, clinics, hospitals, and other mental health environments. Offered through WMU’s Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology, the curriculum meets departmental requirements for psychology education certification. Graduates are eligible for Michigan licensure as Limited License Psychologists.
