Recent Graduate - Big Plans

Amanda Arnold, B.B.A.’10, is using her knowledge of human resource management from the Haworth College of Business at her internship with GE Energy in the industrial solutions division and in the master’s program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She is a driven and motivated person, confident that her degree and internship “will be invaluable experiences and contribute to my future career immensely.”

Originally, Arnold had no plans of pursuing an advanced degree but received encouragement from professors in the college, “The support of a couple professors showed me that I had potential that I did not realize on my own."

Arnold learned excellent time management skills at WMU and is seeing the importance of those skills in graduate school, having multiple projects on her plate at all times. While her internship can be slightly overwhelming, she is certain that the education she received from the Haworth College of Business has set her up for success.  She has taken many HR-related skills away from the college that she is already applying to real-world situations, seeing connections to what she learned in the classroom.

As a recent graduate, Arnold is excited about the opportunities ahead of her. She hopes that her internship at GE Energy will turn into a full-time job offer. The Kalamazoo native is also getting the opportunity to spread her wings geographically speaking too with her internship in Selmer, TN, and graduate school in Illinois. She commented, “Moving away to a brand new town all on my own and this whole graduate experience has been amazing!" Arnold offers the same encouragement she received from her professors to WMU students and recent graduates saying, “I would highly recommend to anyone in HR to follow this path.” She notes that the Haworth College of Business was a crucial experience in her professional life and insists, “I would not be where I am today without the education that I received at the Haworth College of Business.”
