Sales, support and no regrets: Q&A with Nick Bsharah
Why did you choose your major/program? Is it something you have always been interested in?
I have always been interested in studying business. Although I had my mind made up, I chose the major that I did because of the welcoming and transparent nature of the Haworth College of Business from the day that I toured as a senior in high school. I also grew passionate about the college because of the opportunities that are presented to students along with the potential to grow personally and professionally.
What is the most exciting professional or academic experience you’ve had thus far?
The best choice that I have made in my three years so far at WMU was joining the fraternity Phi Gamma Delta. Taking on leadership roles within my chapter in recruitment and pledge education have helped me grow so much as a person. Within the business college, my favorite part has been the choice I made to study abroad in Thailand. Not only did I learn a lot from the tours we took and the businesses we visited, but as a group we had so much fun getting to know each other and spending each day with one another.
How is the Haworth College of Business helping prepare you to reach your academic and professional goals?
The college of business is helping me prepare in a few different ways for both my current academic life, and also post-graduation. The professors are the reason I perform well in the classroom. Western does a great job of preparing you for the professional world after graduation by making your academic experience as hands-on as possible. The college of business also does a great job of offering opportunities through student organizations and career fairs.
How is your experience in the Haworth College of Business be unique?
My experience is unique because professors don’t only pay attention to how I perform academically, but they also pay attention to what I have done outside of the classroom. This helps because I know I can ask my professors anything regarding class work or about professional experiences. It all ties back to WMU emphasizing relationships through all four years.
Speak to how the business college’s reputation for job placement and its smaller class sizes are benefiting you and other students.
The number one thing that Western does time and time again is bring in consistently good employers for Sales and Business Marketing Association employer nights and career fairs. The small class sizes have helped me build a closer relationship with my classmates and professors, I wouldn’t be doing half as well as I am right now if it weren't for the student-staff bond.
What is your advice to fellow students who are looking to get the most out of their college experience?
You get what you put into it. The more you do, the more enjoyable your experience will be. I’ve done all the things that I said I would do and tried things I never thought I would. The best part about all of that is that I won’t have any regrets when I graduate from WMU.
