Marvin G. Imus, B.S.’78A long-time member of the WMU Food Marketing Industry Advisory Board and a generous supporter of the food and consumer package goods marketing program, Marv Imus has devoted countless hours sharing his knowledge with students.
Role-playing as a buyer for student presentations, Imus is a valued participant in a number of case studies in the program’s Issues and Strategies course. He has served as the coach and mentor for the WMU National Grocers Association student competition teams since the inception of the Asparagus Club University case competition in 2011. This year, the WMU team took home first place nationally.
Imus is currently an industry consultant specializing in in-store technology and card-based frequent shopper marketing programs. He is the former owner and president of Paw Paw Shopping Center. Paw Paw Shopping Center was a single store operation started in 1947 by his father. Imus joined the family business in 1975 as vice president of information and eventually rose to the position of president.
He has been a member of the Wholesaler and Independent Retailer Task Force Committee for Efficient Consumer Response, a member of Food Distributor International’s Category Management Certification Development Team, the chairman of Spartan Stores’ Technology Advisory Board, as well as a participant in Spartan’s model store re-engineering process.
Imus has always been at the cutting edge of understanding and taking care of his customers and recognizing the value each and every one brings to the store. This insight into consumers has led Imus to pioneer many innovative programs throughout his career.
