Paul and Julie Yelsma Scholarship
Application Instructions: Criteria and Process
The Paul and Julie Yelsma Scholarship is given annually to a student who demonstrates academic promise in the area of Communication Studies, Interpersonal Communication, or Strategic Communication.
Amount:
Each academic year a scholarship of a range of $500-$750 may be available for this scholarship for one student.
Selection Criteria:
1. Full time undergraduate student with sophomore or junior status and a major in the School of Communication
2. A minimum GPA of 2.75
3. A record of academic promise in the area of Communication Studies, Interpersonal Communication, or Strategic Communication.
Application process:
1. Applicants must complete and submit the Yelsma Scholarship application form.
2. Applicants must submit a two-page essay addressing any their interest in the area of Communication Studies, Interpersonal Communication, or Strategic Communication. This essay may describe courses taken, assignments completed, or other activities that contribute to your interest in this area.
3. Submit your materials by February 26, 2026 using the application form below.

Timing:
1. The scholarship recipient shall be named in the spring for awarding in the following academic year (2026-2027).
2. Each award shall be distributed one half in the fall semester (2026) and one half in the spring semester (2027).
3. Students graduating in Fall 2026 will receive the award for fall only.
