Bio:
Molly Cryderman-Weber (she/her) is a musicologist, educator, and musician. Cryderman-Weber’s primary research interests are the ideologies sustained by music and sound design in ephemeral media and non-canonical spaces, as well as semiotic investigations of music in playful contexts, such as sports and games. Recent projects include a presentation at the Music and the Moving Image conference on sonic ideology in Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood (2026) and a chapter in the Eisenstädter Haydn-Berichte on Haydn’s hymn tunes in North American Presbyterian hymnals (2025).
 
Cryderman-Weber holds a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2020); her dissertation is titled “The Sound of the Hidden Curriculum: Music and Sound Design in Baby-Boomer Era Social Guidance Films in the United States.”
 
Prior to joining the faculty at WMU, Cryderman-Weber taught at Michigan State University, Central Michigan University, and Lansing Community College and worked as Education Assistant for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. She has served as editor-in-chief of the Percussive Notes Scholarly Research Edition and as chair of the Percussive Arts Society’s Scholarly Research Committee. An active performer, Cryderman-Weber is pianist for First Presbyterian Church of Stockbridge and a frequent percussionist for Sistrum Women’s Chorus.
