Each high school band director in Michigan may nominate as many as four of his or her best players for participation in the 120-member Carter Pann All-Star Band which will rehearse and perform in Miller Auditorium on Spring Conference day. Band directors must submit their online all-star nomination form and registration form no later than Friday, March 1.
Recorded audition recommended
We encourage each nominee to submit a recorded audition (MP3 file preferred). First chair aspirants must submit a recorded audition. A recorded audition will be especially helpful to an outstanding student who has not participated regularly in solo/ensemble festivals (one of the main criterion for selection). An individual file for each candidate is required if a recorded audition is sent.
Recordings should include a "contest" solo. All nominated students will be notified, at their home addresses, of their participation status no later than March 22. Carter Pann All-Star Band winners will receive music to prepare. Participants will be asked to pay a $10 fee when they arrive on April 4. Nominated students not placed in the all-star band may still attend the conference free of charge.
