Ken Smith came to Western Michigan University from the Indiana University School of Music at Indiana University-Purdue University, where he served as technology coordinator and taught graduate and undergraduate courses in music technology and music education. Previously, he taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Toledo (Ohio) Christian School. At WMU he teaches courses in music education and technology.
His research interests include technology-based music instruction and junior high music education. He co-authored the article "Supporting CRME Online" which was published in The Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education. He has presented at conferences such as the annual convention of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction, the Illinois Music Education Association All-State Conference, and MENC's 58th National Biennial In-Service Conference.
He recently presented two sessions at the 2005 Indiana Music Educators Convention and 2005 TI:ME Midwest Regional Convention, titled "Strategies for Using CAI in Your Classroom and Private Studio" and "Digital Video Basics and Applications for the Music Teacher."
