POSITION
Assistant Professor of Music Education – Choral Music Education
Western Michigan University is seeking a tenure track professor in choral music education. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, engaging teacher/conductor who sees choral music as a transformative art and agent of social change. We seek candidates that will be active researchers in the field of music education. In an effort to create an intellectual community that conducts research that addresses social problems, we are seeking candidates who have a progressive view of music education, are experts in their discipline, and have a commitment to racial justice. A commitment to advancing diversity and equity through programming and curriculum and an interest in culturally-responsive pedagogy would be ideal.

SALARY

MAJOR DUTIES
· Teaching undergraduate courses in music education and choral music, and conducting choral ensembles
· Advising upper-level undergraduate choral music education students
· Supervising student teachers
· Actively recruit choral music education students and develop program-building strategies
· Maintain an active research/creative profile appropriate to the discipline
· Engage in service to the School, College, University, and profession
· Collaborate with other faculty
· Other teaching and non-teaching assignments determined by school and area needs and applicant qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· ABD in music (music education or choral conducting emphasis) from an accredited school
· Successful undergraduate teaching experience
· Three years of successful teaching experience in K-12 public schools with a focus on secondary choral education
· Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, professional activity, recruitment, and service
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Doctorate degree in music (music education or choral conducting emphasis) from an accredited school
· Six years of successful teaching experience in K-12 public schools with a focus on secondary choral education
· Demonstrated success in teaching at the college level
SCHOOL OF MUSIC
The School of Music, along with the Frostic School of Art, and the Departments of Dance and Theatre, is a part of the College of Fine Arts. The School of Music has 36 full-time faculty and 12 staff, more than 500 music majors, and NASM accreditation. Degree programs include Bachelor and Master degrees with majors in performance, music education, composition, music therapy, jazz studies, multimedia arts technology, the Bachelor of Musical Arts (interdisciplinary), Bachelor of Arts, and the accelerated Master of Arts.
