ATYP Registration
Welcome to ATYP's registration page
To register a student, click on the registration button below. If you have never been an ATYP student, you will need to create a login to the portal system. If you have registered previously, login using the email address and password that you used last year (Note: it is not your WMU email address. If you cannot remember which email address you used to initially create your account, email Dr. Kelly). You will receive a confirmation to the email listed when your application has been processed. Feel free to contact the office with any questions at atyp-info@wmich.edu. Returning students should register by April 21; new students should register by May 19, so we have enough time to process it and send you a letter for your counselor.
Directions:
- If you do not have a portal account (new students), you will need to create a portal account (click on "Sign up") using a valid email address. This should be an email address for the student, not the parent. If the student does not have their own email address, we suggest creating one at gmail. During sign up, once you start typing your student's school name, it should pop up. Once you have created the account, look for an email at the address you provided to confirm your account. Set your password after clicking the link.
Once you have logged into your portal you will start a new application (for both existing and new students) with the following information to complete the registration process for ATYP:
- Which program are you applying for? – Academically Talented Youth Program (ATYP)
- Term - Fall 2024
- Campus – Main Campus for Kalamazoo, Battle Creek for Aviation Campus
Complete the application. More information about which course to take is included below the registration button.
Click the button below to begin. Note: this process works best on the Chrome or Firefox browser.
Note: Returning Battle Creek area students should go ahead and register for the Battle Creek campus; we will be in touch regarding your options once we have a better indication of what our numbers will be for next year.
For new students, you should only enroll in the appropriate course(s) that you earned qualifying scores. The choices are Honors English 9/10, Algebra I/II, or Geometry/Algebra II. The specific course that you are qualified to take will be marked on your acceptance letter. Only choose Geometry/Algebra II if you are currently completing an Algebra I course (note: Math PLUS 6 or 7 is not an Algebra course). Verification from your math teacher will be required to take Geometry/Algebra II.
For students currently in Year I courses, you should enroll in the appropriate Year II course: Honors English 11/12 and/or Geometry/Precalculus, based upon which area of study you complete this year. These courses meet for one afternoon per week from 1:20 – 3:50 p.m. If you were previously eligible for a different course (enrolled in math only but were eligible in English, for example) and now want to begin the other course, you may sign up to do so if we have a copy of your eligible test score in the ATYP office. If you were admitted via the portfolio method last year and are interested in adding the other class, please contact the ATYP office so we can discuss your options.
For our third year English students, our intention is to offer AP Language & Composition/AP Literature & Composition (as a follow up to English 11/12) on the Kalamazoo campus on Monday/Wednesday from 2:00 – 3:50 p.m. and online on Tuesday/Thursday 4 – 5:50 p.m. Battle Creek Year II students are welcome to join us in Kalamazoo or online. However, due to the low number of students in English 11/12, we may only offer one of the two sections. We will be in touch this summer with more information.
For our fourth year English students, we hope to again offer ATYP IV, Literature, Philosophy & Media. This class is held in Kalamazoo and is offered as an English credit. The days and times of the class are dependent on which schedule is most convenient for students, and may be once or twice per week in the afternoon or evening. A course description is available.
As a separate course, we will offer AP Computer Science A in Kalamazoo. This course meets on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2 – 3:50 p.m. Algebra I is a prerequisite for AP Computer Science, but there are no qualifying scores needed for this class. A course description is available.
