Upward Bound-Kalamazoo and Upward Bound-Van Buren are planning to begin their Upward Bound summer components on June 15th and will operate until July 31st. Currently, Upward Bound is planning to hold an online summer program until the end of June and will transition to on-campus summer programs during the week of July 6th. The transition to on-campus programs is contingent on social distance regulations from the State of Michigan and Western Michigan University being lifted. If social distance regulations are extended, both Upward Bound programs plan to provide an online summer program for the entire six-weeks of the summer component. For questions, please email Keenan King, Director of Upward Bound at keenan.a.king@wmich.edu.

The Upward Bound Program provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. The Upward Bound Program serves high school students from low-income families and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree.

The goal of the program is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of post-secondary education.

The Upward Bound Program is federally funded through the U.S. Department of Education.
