Faculty at WMU

We are partnered with several Western Michigan University faculty members in the College of Education and Human Development as well as a faculty member in the Department of Spanish. Collaboration with faculty have centered around their course requirement that all their students complete a required amount of service hours (10 to 20 hours) with one of the service sites we are coordinating. We continue to look for additional faculty in need of a service-learning component to partner with.

Also, the staff collaborates with the service-learning program in planning and administrative duties that support the day-to-day operation of the program.

Kalamazoo Public Schools

Service learners are placed at each site to provide morning and after-school tutoring and mentorship to youth. Our service learners also assist with the daily advisory and NovaNET classes. In the advisory class, high school seniors prepare their final research papers and presentations and the service learners have an opportunity to assist these students with their assignments.
