Alida L. Perrine

Dr. Perrine is an educator and scholar of Latin American culture and language from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She earned her Ph.D. in Luso-Brazilian Media Studies from the University of Texas in 2020, specializing in contemporary cultural expressions in opposition to gendered racism in Brazil. Her research interests include feminist inquiry and expression, Black and Indigenous epistemologies, and media and literature for children and youth. In the classroom, Dr. Perrine seeks to create inclusive and engaging spaces that encourage students to take ownership of their own learning as they improve language and communication skills. She has taught all levels of Portuguese and Spanish, including first-semester language courses for true beginners and upper-division courses on Latin American literature and culture. She currently teaches a dual-enrollment course at West Ottawa High School.
