Spanish Major: Education
Secondary education Spanish majors will receive instruction on the various approaches and strategies involved in modern language teaching. You will:
- Learn theory and practice related to teaching listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, as well as culture.
- Gain necessary skills for the completion of the Oral Proficiency Interview and an understanding of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification in Spanish.
- Develop personal and creative skills for instructing in the classroom.
WMU’s Department of Spanish can provide the intellectual background and professional mindset required for this demanding field.
COURSES
Oral Proficiency Interview
Education majors must pass the Oral Proficiency Interview before student teaching.
Grades
Only departmental courses in which a grade of C or better is obtained may be counted toward a major or minor in Spanish.
