Working With Social Media Badges

Social media badges provide a way to link to a unit's social media page with the social media platform's icon.  Social media badges are displayed just above the unit name and address in the section footer. There can only be one icon for each social media type in the section, and it must link to a social website that is for your section.  Only managers can create, edit and delete social media badges.  Currently, the allowed social media platforms to link to are:

  • Facebook

  • Instagram

  • LinkedIn

  • Snapchat

  • Twitter

  • Weibo

  • YouTube

How to add social media badges

  1. Click on Add Content in the administration menu and click on Social media badges.

  2. Fill in a Title (optional)—if left blank, it will default to "[SECTION NAME] Social Media."

  3. Choose the Section to which these social media badges belong.

  4. Enter the full URL for your social media sites in the appropriate boxes.

  5. Click Save.

Official social media pages must meet certain requirements and must be approved by the Office of Marketing and Strategic Communications. Only links to official, approved social media pages are permitted on WMU Web pages. See the University policy on social media for more information.
