“Object semantics, the meanings we place on objects based on our preexisting knowledge and associations, is pivotal in my work. I believe that objects have the ability to shapeshift while still possessing the inherent meanings prescribed to them. In my studio practice, I enjoy dissecting objects, turning things inside and out and then finding new ways of putting them back together. My most recent body of work has taken on a new fold, turning to fabric as the object of investigation. The plasticity of clay when wet is similar to that of fabric in that it can be bent, folded, torn, and stretched. This material relationship continues to fascinate me.”
