Dear Colleagues:

We are deeply saddened to share news regarding the passing of one of our most esteemed colleagues, Michael Braun, a master faculty specialist in the Department of Spanish.

As many of you know, Michael was beloved by his students and colleagues. In recognition of his outstanding work as an educator, last year he was awarded the Barbara Ort-Smith Award from the Michigan World Language Association, the highest distinction given by MIWLA to foreign language educators in the state of Michigan. Michael was also the recipient of the College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Achievement Award in Teaching in 2015-16 and will be honored at this year’s convocation with the 2018 Distinguished Teaching Award, the highest honor WMU bestows in recognition of exemplary professional competence.

Michael will be terribly missed by students, staff and faculty in our community. We know that this information may be overwhelming; if you are in need of additional support, please visit the Sindecuse Health Center Counseling Services page. Information about funeral arrangements will be shared with unit chairs and directors as soon as we have more information.

Take care,
