Bronco Bucks for Good Grant

About

Bronco Bucks for Good is a mini-grant open to all College of Arts and Sciences students, staff and faculty to bring new and innovative ideas to life. Grants are for $500 to $1,000. It is anticipated that one to five awards will be made across the two review cycles, depending upon the requested amounts and availability of funds. These grants are made available through the generous contributions of Ms. Cathleen Knauf, a Bronco alumna from the College of Arts and Sciences, and are intended to support a creative and practical idea that makes the community a better place here on campus, in Kalamazoo or in our broader community. Your creative, practical ideas need not be complicated. A little funding can make a big difference. Great ideas can start small. Bronco Bucks for good is designed to help turn those ideas into action.

Deadlines for Applications

  • October 15 (for implementation in the spring)
  • February 15 (for implementation in the summer or fall)

Applicant Eligibility

  • Proposals from students, faculty and staff in any discipline in the College of Arts and Sciences are welcome.
  • Students must:
    • Have a faculty sponsor for fund disbursement,
    • Have a declared major or minor in a department or program within the College of Arts and Sciences,
    • Have completed at least 9 credit hours at WMU,
    • Be enrolled in the semester (fall, spring, summer I or summer II) for which they are requesting funds and
    • Be in good academic standing.
  • Faculty and staff members of the College of Arts and Sciences must have their primary appointment in some area of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Guidelines for Proposal Preparation

Applicants should complete the form below, which asks for the following information:

  • Name, contact information, designation (student, staff, faculty) and department.
  • If proposal is from a student, the student must name a faculty sponsor who has agreed to serve as faculty sponsor.
  • A short description of your idea and what you want to make happen.
  • A statement about who will benefit and what positive difference your idea will make.
  • A statement about what makes your idea new, creative and innovative.
  • A statement about how you will know your idea was successful.  What do you hope will happen as a result of you implementing your idea?
  • How much funding you are requesting and an outline for how you will use the funds (i.e., a budget).
  • When you plan to complete your project.
  • A one-sentence statement about why Bronco Bucks for Good should fund your idea.

Funding may be used to:

  • Purchase materials and supplies for execution of the idea.
  • Travel to implement the idea.
  • Other expenses related to carrying out the project.
  • These funds may be used in conjunction with other internal WMU awards.
  • Funds must be used following University procedures and in accordance with the submitted budget.

Fund Disbursement

  • For students, funds for this award will be disbursed to a departmental account under the supervision of the student’s faculty sponsor and department chair.
  • For faculty and staff, funds for this award will be disbursed to a departmental fund and cost center under the supervision of the department chair.
  • Funds must be used in accordance with University procedures and for the purpose for which they were awarded.
  • Funds must be used during the requested time period.
  • This award will be offered for the deadlines listed as long as funds are available.

Grant recipients will be asked to provide a one-page summary of the outcomes of their project and possibly to attend a meeting where they share these results with the donor.
