Jazz Studies

The School of Music at Western Michigan University offers a Bachelor of Music in jazz studies degree.

The jazz studies program at WMU has gained international recognition for its innovative approach to jazz education. The program attracts undergraduate and graduate students from throughout the United States and worldwide.

Degree Requirements
The Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies requires a minimum or 126 credits, with 70% of coursework within the School of Music, and 30% in general studies. School of Music coursework includes:
Private lessons in improvisation
Ensemble playing
Jazz combo participation
Jazz theory and history
Jazz composition
