Dr. Abby Musgrove joined Western Michigan University’s Irving S. Gilmore School of Music as Director of Choral Activities beginning Fall 2026, where she oversees the WMU Choral program, teaches courses in choral literature and methods, and conducts the University Chorale and Anima. Prior to her appointment at WMU, Musgrove led the choral programs at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and Illinois College and taught secondary school music in Illinois.
Musgrove holds degrees in Music Education and Choral Conducting from the University of Kansas, University of North Texas, and Millikin University. She is the founder and director of the Springfield, Ill. based semi-professional choir, the Spero Chamber Chorale. Musgrove is often in demand as a clinician at district and state festivals for her practical and effective rehearsal techniques, and her unique repertoire choices and concert experiences. She has served on the Boards of Illinois ACDA and Oklahoma ACDA, and regularly serves as a choirs and presentations evaluator for Southwestern ACDA.
Her research interests include historic and modern performance practices, developing choral solutions for small schools, and the science and physics behind aesthetics.
She is a fan of science fiction, jeeps, archeology, and tea. Abby lives in Portage with her husband, Will, and their daughter, Quincy.
