WMU Drum Choir
Keith Hall, Director
An extension of the jazz drum curriculum, the Western Michigan University Drum Choir performs primarily compositions arranged and composed by students. This unique group experience creates a tremendous atmosphere for the exchange of ideas, improvisation, and teamwork. Students also explore world rhythm concepts and the history of drum set vocabulary. The ensemble performs at the WMU Invitational Jazz Festival, as part of jazz ensemble concerts, and for special events.
Created in 1992 by artist-in-residence Billy Hart, the WMU Drum Choir gives students an opportunity to explore the tradition of the drums while incorporating contemporary concepts. Required for jazz drum set majors, the ensemble is also open to non-majors.
