It all started for Sam Sheeran with a finance degree and a dream: to work in investment research. After graduating from WMU Haworth with his B.B.A. during the COVID-19 pandemic, he knew the pursuit was going to be risky business in an uncertain job market. 

Sheeran hedged his bets by accepting a full-time job at Comerica Bank and studying for the CFA exam. Maximizing his time before and after work by memorizing formulas and practicing problems paid off, he passed all three levels of the exam on the first try.  

He saw the return on investment when he landed a research analyst position at Flexible Plan Investments in 2021. Since then, Sheeran has transformed his approach to investment analysis by teaching himself the Python programming language and machine learning. Now, he leads the department’s research into machine learning, applying the same principles of hard work and determination that yielded his place at the company.
