Master of Arts in educational leadership-educational and global leadership, 2019

Director of White Lake Area Community Education (WLACE) at Whitehall District Schools

At WLACE, we partner with six school districts in Muskegon and Oceana counties providing; Early Childhood (Head Start and GSRP), Alternative Education, Adult Education (ABE, ESL, Jail) Enrichment and Home School programming to approximately 1,200 learners each day.

What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?

The diversity of work is incredibly stimulating. Being able to create pathways to success for learners who have generally not found success in traditional educational settings is extremely rewarding. The greatest challenge is wading through bureaucracy and compliance, which often appears to have little relevance or impact on the success of students.

What activities, resources, or people helped you prepare for your career?

The colleagues who have had a clear vision of success and those who could articulate it well have had the greatest impact on me, personally and professionally.

What advice do you have for students?

A successful college experience is internally driven. You will only get out of it what you put in to it.
