Nonprofit 501(c)(3) employers can hire students with work-study awards and be reimbursed 75 percent of student employee’s gross wages. The positions, which should serve the public, are typically 5-20 hours per week.
- The employer is initially responsible for 100 percent of wages. After the first pay period, the employer is entitled to a 75 percent reimbursement from WMU of gross wages earned by the student for each pay period as long as the student has not exceeded the total work-study award amount for that semester. The employer is responsible for any dollar amount over the work-study award for the semester.
- Monthly, the employer will complete the Certification of Payment Reimbursement Form and submit it to Career and Student Employment Services by mail for reimbursement.
