As a senior at Western Michigan University majoring in Film and Journalism, my internship with NowKalamazoo as an Editorial Assistant Intern was one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career. That internship opened so many doors for me, including the chance to keep working with NowKalamazoo as a freelance reporter, which has been amazing. NowKalamazoo is a fantastic organization to work for—professional, supportive, and deeply committed to telling meaningful community stories. I’ve learned so much about writing, reporting, and what it means to connect with a community through meaningful stories.

In addition to my reporting work, I also serve as a Social Media Assistant for WMU’s School of Communication, where I manage content and help share student and faculty achievements. But my time with NowKalamazoo truly stands out—it strengthened my skills, built my confidence, and affirmed my passion for journalism. I loved every moment working with such a talented and dedicated team.

The internships I was able to be a part of while at WMU were so beneficial to my success, not only as a student, but as a young professional. I learned and honed my practical skills, made connections, and grew as a leader and person."

The scholarships I have received as an undergraduate at WMU have taken me to places I never thought possible. Oftentimes, financial barriers can take a goal and put it just a little farther out of reach. Through different avenues of funding at WMU, I've been able to avoid those roadblocks and chase the things I want.
