Academics

The Medieval Institute at Western Michigan University offers programs of study in medieval studies for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Graduate study

The Medieval Institute offers an interdisciplinary Master of Arts in medieval studies, the oldest such program at a public university in the United States. The graduate program draws on the expertise of affiliated faculty in the ancient, medieval and early modern world across many disciplines.

Graduate programs

Undergraduate study

Undergraduates interested in medieval studies at WMU can take medieval studies courses or declare a minor in medieval studies. Medieval studies minors may also pursue an accelerated graduate degree program that allows seniors to accumulate credits towards the completion of a master's degree while still enrolled as an undergraduate.

Courses

The Medieval Institute offers two undergraduate courses, MDVL 1000: The Middle Ages, Then and Now and MDVL 2000: Medieval Encounters: Voices from the Past, that meet requirements for Western Essential Studies.
