Temporary Staff Application
The Medieval Institute at Western Michigan University seeks hourly staff to work during the International Congress on Medieval Studies. Please complete and submit this form by April 30 to be considered for employment.
There are three principal roles for hourly workers: tech support crew, registration desk staff, and exhibits hall assistants.
The AV and tech support team works in Sangren Hall. They supervise hybrid sessions and help in-person presenters use basic classroom technology like projectors and speakers.
Hours:
- Thursday: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Friday: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Saturday: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Workers will be assigned to shifts based on your availability. For those supervising hybrid sessions, availability on all three days is desirable. Lunch will be provided for those working both morning and afternoon shifts.
Registration staff work in and around the Student Center. They hand out packets to attendees and provide directions around campus.
Hours:
- Wednesday: noon to 8 p.m.
- Thursday: 7:15 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Friday: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Saturday: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Workers will be assigned to shifts based on your availability. You are not expected to be available during all the hours listed above.
Exhibits Hall workers are based in and around the Student Center. They help vendors set up and tear down their exhibits (this may include lifting and moving boxes up to 45 lbs) before and after the Congress and provide general assistance during the Congress.
Hours:
- Wednesday: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (setup)
- Thursday: 7:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Friday: 7:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Saturday: 7:45 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Sunday: 8 a.m. to noon (teardown)
Workers will be assigned to shifts based on your availability. You are not expected to be available during all the hours listed above.
Mandatory orientation and training for all hourly workers will take place on the Tuesday preceding the Congress, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. You will be paid for your time.
