Football Offensive Grad Assistant/Video Coordinator at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale

Football Offensive Grad Assistant requires me to work with the offense and the Video Coordinator portion has me in charge of all film related things for the football program.

What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?

The job requires attention to detail and doing your best at all times. No off days! I have to be willing to be able to do anything, at any point of time, in order to help the football program succeed.

What experiences impacted the choice of your career path?

I was fortunate to work for the football program for a few years, not many people will be able to experience that. But what I learned from Coach Fleck and his staff, is in order to be successful you must not only be willing to work hard, but to put in those extra hours in order to change your best.

What advice would you offer students to help them decide on a career path?

I was the guy who was many years into college and had no clue what I wanted to do. I realized I enjoyed football, so I decided I wanted to pursue a career in that. Essentially follow your heart, and be willing to put in the work to accomplish what you want. I gathered input from those close to me, but at the end of the day the decision was mine. Not many parents, including my own, will like the sound that their child is pursuing a career in football. If it was up to them, I would be a dentist right now. Remind them there is someone in every profession who is making a lot of money, if that's what they're concerned about. But talk to advisors or counselors, they're amazing. They can really help, so don’t be afraid to seek input from them, it's an easy unbiased opinion.
