I assist small business taxpayers in accurately completing their taxes, through a review of their support documents.
What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?
The most challenging part of my job is learning the whole tax code for small business. The most rewarding part of my job is finding savings for individual proprietors and helping them grow, because I know that supports their local communities.
Which of your skills had the biggest impact on your success?
Tax! Taking both tax classes available and then volunteering for the IRS VITA program helped with a majority of what I’m learning for work.
What advice would you offer students to help them decide on a career path?
Choose something that you’re good at or love to do. Even if it’s not someone else’s idea of being a success, if you’re happy and can provide for your family, do that. If you’re good at it, you’ll always have a job, if you love what you do even if you work for someone else, it will not feel like work. And eventually you may decide to open up your own business doing what you love, working for yourself.
