Bronco Spotlight: Cayla Klimach
Children Services Investigator at Hamilton County Job and Family Services in Cincinnati, OH
As an investigator I respond to allegations of physical abuse, neglect, dependency and assess for child safety and make decisions based on the report. I respond with the assigned state mandate and with hand in hand with the families to help implement services and help families learn and grow.
What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is working with the families and helping them identify their strengths and working with the children. The most challenging part of my job is when I have to make the hard decisions and when I am experiencing the trauma the families are going through.
What activities, resources, or people helped you prepare for your career?
My classes all prepped me for my career; the most impactful class was my child abuse class and the effect it has on children to help me better understand my children and families and why they might make the decisions they make. All of my professors impacted me individually, and I really grew into the adult to tackle this stressful position because of them.
What advice do you have for students looking for their career after college?
My biggest advice for students would be GET INVOLVED! I cheered for the WMU COED cheer team all throughout college and that became a lifelong family to me, WMU has so many clubs, sports, and activities.
