The faculty and staff of the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences at Western Michigan University are a strong collaborative unit. Together, we strive to continually develop our program to meet the complex changing needs of our students and our field.
- To reflect, in our teaching, research and service, the breadth and importance of the geosciences to society, in addition to the interrelationship of our discipline to other fields of science.
- To provide graduates of our programs with the technical expertise and skills needed to gather and interpret geologic data in a rigorous scientific manner.
- To provide our graduates with the tools to effectively communicate the results of geologic investigations to other professionals and the public.
- To facilitate the professional development of our graduates by providing them with a sound foundation in the geosciences and by inspiring passion for intellectual curiosity and lifelong learning.
