If you had a campus job or internship, how did they impact your career development?
I had an externship at Bronson Methodist Hospital in the Trauma Care Unit. My externship allowed me to practice my clinical skills while gaining experience I wouldn't otherwise have had until post-graduation. I now feel more confident in myself entering the field.
What activities, resources, or people helped you prepare for your career?
Volunteering for different organizations close to the specialty I wanted to focus on allowed me and my passion to stand out next to other applicants.
Which of your skills had the biggest impact on your success?
Keeping an open perspective and remaining flexible.
What advice do you have for others pursuing a career similar to yours?
Don't be afraid to reach out to hospitals to job shadow! How will you know if you would enjoy working there if you never experience it? Most healthcare professionals support student education and are impressed by the initiative. A random job shadow led to my dream placement...you never know what could happen!
