Bronco Spotlight: Chyna Dandridge
Client Manager at Cigna
Cigna's mission is is to improve the health, well-being, and peace of mind of those we serve by making health care simple, affordable, and predictable. As a client manager, I renew insurance plans with businesses. On the day to day I am in meetings, building reports, taking clients, and brokers to dinner.
What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?
The people I work with are amazing and talented. In my first month, I met our CEO and all of our executive leadership who gave me great advice going forward in my career. The people in my office are so helpful and I love how we all work together to accomplish our goals. The most challenging is simply understanding the insurance industry since it was not something I had a lot of knowledge of coming in. I have learned so much already and soon will receive my insurance license.
What experiences impacted the choice of your career path?
The things I've done outside of the classroom have greatly impacted my career path. I was a member of multiple RSO's most specifically Phi Chi Theta, where I was given many opportunities to network and connect with other business professionals. I also attended the National Sales Network Student Conference, where I landed 2 roles with fortune 100 companies. I landed an internship with Pepsico for 2 summers and my full time role at Cigna.
What advice do you have for others pursuing a career similar to yours?
My advice would be to get experience while you can in school because it sets you apart from other applicants, and it also good to make sure you are going to actually like what you do when you graduate. During my 4 years at WMU, I held multiple roles but the ones I am most proud of were being a sales manager at the age of 19 an independent Marketing Contractor all while taking on a full load of classes. My days were very busy but it was what I loved to do and helped develop myself along the way.
