Manager, Operations I at Amazon
As an Area Operations Manager at Amazon, I supervise anywhere from 50-100 employees depending on the time of year. I am stationed at a robotics fulfillment center in Romulus, where robots collect and carry our products in an 800,000+ sq. foot facility. My average day is spent working on continuous improvement projects and implementing lean strategies to run the operation. In addition, I work directly with associates to ensure our processes are followed safely and productively while maintaining excellent quality.
What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is the ambiguity and responsibility that comes behind running an operation. I am in charge of my own department, so the success of the building highly depends on the way that it’s being managed. I really enjoy coaching and spending time with associates and giving the department a direction based on both short-term and long-term goals. It really excites me to see when our building is doing well in comparison to other buildings in our network. The most challenging part of my job is dealing with the changes of running a day-to-day operation. I had to learn how to be extremely flexible when solving problems. Taking different approaches, listening to various opinions and learning how to really find the root cause of a problem are all things I had to learn.
